Single-vehicle Crashes On The Rise In Estonia

16 FEB - A sharp increase in the number of single-vehicle crashes, most often involving a bicycle or a motorcycle, has been registered in 2020, Estonian Transport Administration reported.

During the past year 528 single-vehicle collisions happened – 157 or 43% more than the year before. The ETA is still to analyze the data, but preliminary hypotheses link the increase with more speeding during a year marked by restrictive pandemic measures, lockdowns and low traffic volumes. On the other hand, collisions between multiple vehicles and other traffic accidents decreased remarkably.

The enforcement operation aimed at commercial goods and passenger transport was carried out during the week of 8-14 February. It was the first of four such campaigns planned for 2021.

Drones Target Road Offenders in Spain

14 FEB - Drones have detected ten offences after monitoring 530 vehicles for a weekend, Spain's road police force, Guardia Civil, announced.

Traffic Offences in Finland up Despite Empty Roads

10 FEB - Traffic offences rose dramatically in 2020, Finland's National Police Board statistics show.

The numbers are exceptional since traffic volumes declined significantly due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
