ROADPOL Operation TRUCK

This is a ROADPOL multi-agency European Traffic Police enforcement operation directed against the illegal operation of commercial heavy goods vehicles with the aim of improving road safety and detecting road crime.

Commercial heavy goods vehicles are stopped and checked at the roadside by Traffic Police Officers together with other relevant enforcement agencies in a large scale coordinated multi-agency approach operation.

The operation takes place four times per year over the period of one week across Europe by all ROADPOL member countries. The co-operation involved in Operation Truck allows for maximum deployment of resources at one time. This permits many thousands of vehicles and drivers to be stopped at the roadside and controlled.

Targeting of persistent offenders and use of intelligence data exchange between ROADPOL members about illegal operators and drivers enhance the effectiveness of the operation. The results of Operation Truck show that the action is a major factor in improving road safety and reducing road accidents and road casualties in Europe.
