ROADPOL Newsletter August 2020

12 March 2024  | www.roadpol.eu

Welcome to our latest ROADPOL Newsletter

Summer and sunny season: even if we know that the COVID situation has its impact on traffic with less crashes and victims, we have to face speeding on our roads in a highly unreasonable way.

Anyway: enjoy the summer, hope you find useful information in our newsletter - and lets keep an eye on the reckless drivers!

Μείνε στη ζωή και σώσε ζωές *

Yours Sincerely

Joint control "Safe Holiday" France - Belgium - Luxembourg – Germany

Banner Operation civil ete web

Police forces from France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany carried out a transnational control of long-distance travel in France on 1st August.
In times of COVID-19 more and more people go on holiday with their caravan or camper. Especially during the summer holidays many drivers use the highway A 6 as transit route to France or Spain.

Experience from previous controls has shown that caravans and campers in particular are often overloaded. The consequence is a significantly increased risk of accidents. The braking distance increases and driving stability becomes worse.
Due to the high load, the summer heat and the long driving distances, the tyres are also heavily stressed....

HUNGARIA - SUMMER CAMP FOR CHILDREN

Hungaria - Summer Camps for Children

HU Summer Camp

Did you like spending summer time in camps when you were a child? Summer camps are the best places to make new friendships and have new experiences about unknown things.

Organising Accident and Crime Prevention Summer Camp is one of the traditions at the police in Hungary. With the help of the National Accident Prevention Committee county police headquarters organise different summer camps for nursery and primary school children during whole of the summer.

The main target is to handle information about road safety in a playful way. Children can learn about the main traffic rules for pedestrians and cyclists or the meaning of road signs. Besides the road safety children can hear about the danger of summer time during crime prevention lessons, how to store their purse, mobile phone or house keys when they are on the beach or not to open the door for unknown person when they are at home alone. Of course the children have possibility to try police equipment as well as to sit into police cars or meet with police dogs but traditional activities like cycling, swimming in a lake or playing quizzes are also the part of the camp programmes.

ROADPOL ONLINE SEMINAR

 Seminar

First ROADPOL online-Seminar was a full success

Due to the situation the regular annual seminar had to be exchanged to an online version. With support of CEPOL, who allowed to use their techology, we were able to provide interesting topics to a greater audience: more than 50 participants registered to the session and gained actual information about the impact of COVID in Italia and what lessons can be learned, the strategic approach of Luxemburg towards PTW, a case study regarding investigation after a fatal crash using digital evidence and the current state of a research project for early detection of dangerous areas in road traffic using smart data.

The presentations are ready for downloading for those who did not find the time to participate.

1. Paolo Cestra (Italy): COVID-19: Impacts on traffic safety work

2. Federica Deledda (Italy): COVID impact on traffic safety

3. Project presentation EDDA+ (Italy)

4. André Schaack (Luxembourg): Strategic approach PTW in Luxembourg

5. Ulrich Bux and Klaus Kasten (Germany): From fatal Crash to premediated Murder by Evaluation of digital Evidence

Actally we are planning to purchase a similar programme to be able to conduct such ROADPOL online-seminars in the future.

POLAND – "Safe rail crossing. Barrier at the risk." Safety actions at railway crossings in the commune of Oswiecim.

KPP Owicim Dziaania Bezpieczny Przejazd Lipiec 2020 Owicim

As part of the "Safe Holidays 2020" campaign, police officers from Oswiecim conducted together with the employees of the Railway Security Service and employees of the Polish State Railways the third preventive action, which is called "Safe rail crossing. Barrier at the risk”.

The activities were carried out on Friday (24/07) at the railway crossing in Brzezinka. They were aimed at raising awareness of the dangers that may be caused by the disregard of traffic rules and negligence when crossing railway tracks especially unprotected ones.

The officers approached drivers, who stopped in front of the unprotected railway crossing, thanked them for their correct behaviour and reminded them about the consequences of the lack of caution and inattention when entering the railway crossing. They wised them up that a train, which is weighing several hundred or several thousand tons, needs a kilometre till it finally stops. To make the safety rules at railway crossings more memorable, officers handed out information leaflets and car scents with the logo of the campaign, while the youngest passengers received preventive colouring sheets.
