NETHERLANDS: The work of the TRAFFIC INVESTIGATION TEAM and how burdensome the work of the police can be

 NL1

The new Traffic Investigation Team examines every serious accident in the police unit Central Netherlands in detail. Last year, Reinier Schultink (48) and his police team alone had to deal with 66 fatal accidents, with all the additional emotions. "We want to help relatives with their processing."
text: Marco Gerling

The front of one car is completely unrecognizable. In another completely burnt-out vehicle, only blackened remains and burning odor remain inside. In another car, the huge star in the window is the silent witness to the blow with which a head hit it.

Anyone who doesn't know better thinks they have ended up in the place of a serious accident - if the cars were not so neatly arranged side by side. The courtyard of Traffic Investigation Team could also have been a junkyard. In order to discourage persistent scrutiny, a black cloth has been shielding the wrecks from the outside world for several weeks.

POLICE MAP OF ROAD ACCIDENTS WITH FATAL EFFECTS

- Holidays 2020

Police Map of Road Accidents which was published during last summer holidays in 2019,

met with a very positive public perception.

PL2

That’s why, this year Road Traffic Bureau NPHq decided to continue it this year.

  • Road accidents during the summer holidays:
  • All accidents [75]
  • Last 24 h [8] – yellow dot
  • From the begining of holidays [60] – black dot
  • Road accidents in which a person died within 30 days [7] – orange dot

Every day, during the summer holidays, road accidents map will be published with the number of road accidents resulting in fatalities from the last 24 hours and from the beginning of the holidays.

The current update, including data visualization, aims to draw attention to the scale of the tragedy that occurs on Polish roads, to reflect on road users, and to encourage the media to discuss about road safety.

This year, a new map functionality is the possibility of obtaining additional information about the event, i.e. the type of event and the number of killed, broken down by road users. It should be borne in mind that behind every point marked on this map, there is a human tragedy.

Any, even seemingly trivial ignoring the rules, including excessive speed, bravado, neglecting drowsiness or fatigue can be the cause of tragedies on the road.

LUXEMBOURG: CAMPAING « SAFE HOLIDAY 2020 »

image

On Friday July 10th, the Central Traffic Unit from Luxembourg organized a preventive control on the safety of vehicles, especially campers, trailers etc. which are generally used to go on vacation.

This was a police service that also took place in the central traffic unit's parking lot. The action, which was announced in advance, took place on a voluntary basis, so the drivers voluntarily subjected their vehicle to the control.

The main target was to inform the drivers about the dangers of overload, tires (load index, …), load securing, fatigue, etc. In addition, the vehicles were weighed by using the police mobile scale to inform their owners about their operating weight and the loading capacity.

This campaign took place for the second time after 2019 and 50 vehicles have been weighed.

ELECTRIC VEHICLES – European license plates

 lpg

Our colleague and ROADPOL friend Floris De Vogel, Local Police Antwerp, Creator of the License Plate Guide (LPG) has provided us with the current LPG 2020 (available only for ROADPOL members) and exclusively with a summary of the currently valid license plates for electric vehicles in Europe.  2

We first met Floris in 2018 at our OPG meeting in Manchester, when he introduced us to his LPG, which was very well received by our members. Since then our members can always access the latest LPG.

In response to our enquiry to whether there is also a compilation of the number plates for electric vehicles valid in Europe, Floris immediately provided us with the following overview, which we may publish in our newsletter with his express permission.

The license plate guide is intended for prevention in law enforcement and to provide information to legal authorities and police services. It is a confidential document which we are not allowed to make public.

Floris also offers trainings about legislation, fraud and forgery. For any questions or suggestions, you can get in contact with him via Licenseplateguide@europe.com.

CENTRAL LABORATORY OF AUTOMOTIVE ANALYTICS AND FORENSICS  - The ITALIAN TRAFFIC POLICE... the forensic technology for road safety in Europe.

image

The Traffic Police, a speciality of the State Police, has been a member of TISPOL-ROADPOL European Roads Policing Network since 2003 and among its institutional activities is committed against the crime of road homicide, through a vehicle forensic laboratory (its activities concern many types of electronic investigations, but now we focus on car accidents). In this context, understanding the dynamics of the accident is crucial to clarify criminal liability.

The Central Laboratory of Automotive Analytics and Forensics, which is part of the Traffic Police Service, thanks to its...
