Italian Police To Receive
450 New Alfa Romeos
12 OCT - Italian State Police will receive 450 new Alfa Romeos for its fleet, the law enforcement service announced.
The new autos will be assigned to the General Prevention and Public Rescue Offices (UPGSP). They are planned to perform partol service and will exercise control of the territory in all Italian provinces.
Livery
“450 vehicles of the Giulia model in white-blue livery will enrich the auto fleet of the Italian police stations by the end of the year and will become part of the family of the "panthers" who have written the history of the State Police and of our country”, the Police commented. “The new Giulia will have a 2000 cc turbo 200 horsepower engine and will be equipped with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and rear-wheel drive. A technological jewel, in perfect Alfa Romeo sporty style, to guarantee even higher safety standards in the cities”, the Police added in the announcement.
Cooperation
The Police remind that collaboration with Alfa Romeo has been going on for over seventy years starting with the legendary Alfa Romeo 1900 Super TI special, used in the 1950s for patrol service and already equipped at the time with an armored windscreen. Another unit to be presented later by Alfa was the Giulietta 1300, recognizable by its characteristic amaranth color.
Icons
Then it was the Giulia Super 1600 in gray-green livery, which was used at the turn of the 60's and 70's, becoming an Italian icon also thanks to its participation in crime movies of the time. In the collective imagination, however, today's patrol vehicles are associated with the blue and white livery, introduced on Italian roads with the Alfa Romeo 33 at the beginning of the 80's and then continued with the Alfa Romeo 155 and 159.
