This is a ROADPOL country driving guide to help drivers visiting Lithuania.

The total area of the Republic of Lithuania is 65 300 square kilometres.
The capital is Vilnius.
The country has a population of 3 million inhabitants;
The State road infrastructure comprises 1 883 km of main road, 5 057 km of national road, and 14 700 km of regional road.
The total distance of state road is 21 640 km. ● Lithuania’s border countries are Latvia, Belarus, Poland and Russia (Kaliningrad district).
Lithuania has 99 km of coastline, on the Baltic Sea.
The highest point in Lithuania is either at Juozapine or Kruopine (depending on who you ask!), some 293 metres above sea level.

Collision & Breakdown Information:

In a collision stay at the place of the accident and call the Police (telephone 112). If the ‘perpetrator’ of the collision admits fault, you need not call the Police. Simply fill in the Declaration of Accident form and be sure to call your insurance company.

In a breakdown turn on emergency lights or put the emergency triangle at the safe distance from the vehicle (in urban areas, approximately 25 metres, in rural areas 50 m.). Call the emergency telephone 112 for help. You are obliged to call the Police if there are injured persons or fatalities, or if the offender has fled the scene, or when the perpetrator doesn‘t admit fault.

Road Traffic Policing:

Enforcement is carried out by local police and the Lithuanian Traffic Police Service

Road Traffic Enforcement:

The main attention is paid to speeding, drink driving and seatbelt use.
Random testing of alcohol is undertaken on all types of roads and places with increased risk.
In 2014, 12 582 drivers over the alcohol limit were caught by police.
You are not allowed to carry an opened container of alcohol inside your vehicle
In Lithuania, a mixture of mobile and fixed camera devices as well as in-car/hand held radars and laser guns are used to enforce speed limits.
Seat belt checks are undertaken alone and in combination with other checks.
